Making plans (#blogjune)
My husband’s parents have just sold their house. Settlement is due to occur mid July.
The house they are building is not due to be completed until September. But we all know what the building process is like, and how long this this can take – intended or otherwise….
As it is such a short period of time between settlement and their house being ready, we’ve offered to take them in – repaying the favour they did for us many years ago when we were saving to buy our first house.
So, we are in the process of making plans – plans to make out house ready them them and their cat, plans for all of us to be under the same roof again.
As some of you may know, we have a dog, a dog who isn’t so keen on cats. So we are having a door installed to keep the two separate. It’s something we’ve toyed with before (separating the living area from the back end of the house) but haven’t gotten around to doing. So now it’s happening – along with replacing the front door which has not held up well to the weather over the last 7 years, and rehanging 2 doors which have never closed properly.
Hubby and I both work long and late, normally not getting home til 6.30 or 7.00pm. Dinner for us may not occur til 8pm, if we decide to have dinner at all. Both his parents are retired, and in the time I’ve known them, they’ve always had dinner at about 6pm. We’ve decided we’ll each look after ourselves for dinner.
There’s still lots to plan, like what to do with the cars (minor detail).
Having them stay with us means that our dog will have company during the day and that we can get other trades in to do other work that needs to be done that would have normally required us taking time of work – like having sparkies and plasterers come through and fix things that have bugged us over the last 7 years….
It’s kind of kicked us in to gear to get things done.
